News for the Week of August 28 - September 1

This Week:

Practice Lock Down Drill:  This Monday we will have our first practice lock down drill following lunch.  Teachers will be reviewing the procedures for a lock down with their students to ensure our school is best prepared in case of an emergency.  Parents, please take a moment this weekend to talk to your child about the importance of following their teacher or closest adults directions, and let them know that this is just practice.  During the drill the office will be closed and we will not be opening the door or answering the phone.  If you have an appointment for your child during this time, please be sure to pick your child up prior to 1:00 pm or after 1:40 pm.

Back to School Night:  This Tuesday I am looking forward to seeing you all at Back to School Night. 3rd - 5th grade will be from 5:30 - 6:15 pm and TK - 2nd will be from 6:20 - 7:00 pm.  All families will enter through the front gate.  This is wonderful time to meet your child's teacher, learn about their instructional program, and expectations for the school year. This is not an evening to conference with the teacher or ask how your child is doing.  You can schedule an appointment at another time that is convenient for you both.

TK/Kindergarten Social - TK/Kindergarten families please sure to join the TK/Kinder Social on Thursday following the dismissal bell on the kinder yard for ice cream and a chance to watch your children play with their friends.  This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other families from your child's classroom and enjoy a cold treat.  Join us on Wednesday, August 30th from 2:30 - 3:30.

No School - There is be no school this Friday in honor of Admission's Day and Monday as we honor those who fought hard for the labor movement on Labor Day.  School will resume on Tuesday with 1:30 pm dismissal.

LAPD Safety Presentation - On Tuesday, Sept. 5th LAPD traffic division will be monitoring traffic and then presenting to our students the importance of traffic and school safety.   Once again please remember the importance of following traffic rules when dropping off and picking up your child.  Please do not drop off your child in the middle of the street, do not park in front of driveways or in the red, and most importantly do not make u-turns in drop off areas.   If we can all follow the rules we can help keep our students safe and avoid traffic tickets.  Thank you.

I hope you all have a wonderful evening and remainder of the weekend.  I truly thank you for your partnership as we work together to have a positive and productive school year.   This is all for now.

Your Welby Way Principal,

Mrs. DaCorsi
