Good evening Welby Way families,
Fall Lockdown Drill: Tomorrow in the afternoon, we will have our annual Fall Lockdown Drill to practice our emergency procedures. Please let your child know this is only a drill and it is important for them to listen to and follow the directions of their supervising adults. Also, during the drill the office will be closed, and phones will not be answered. As soon as all students and adults are accounted for the office will open once again and the drill will be complete.
Lunch/Food Drop Off and Water Bottles: Reminder from last week, in order to not disrupt instructional time in the classroom and comply with the change in the strict district policy, this school year the office will no longer be accepting late lunch or water bottle drop off in the office and no outside fast food establishments are permitted. Please remind your child that there is no sharing food at recess or lunch to avoid any food allergy situations. If a student forgets their lunch or water bottle, a cart will be placed outside the office until 9:45 am where families can drop off a labeled lunch and/or labeled water bottle. No items will be accepted after 9:45 am. This cart will be rolled just inside the gate for students to retrieve their lunch or water bottle at recess. Please remember that all students are able to eat snack and lunch from the cafeteria this school year for free and no student will go unfed.
Back to School Night: I look forward to seeing you all at Back to School Night on Tuesday, Aug. 27th. TK - 2nd grade (along with Mrs. Citron's class) will be from 5:30 - 6:15 pm and 3rd - 5th grade will be from 6:20 - 7:00 pm. All families will enter through the front gate. Please remember this evening is only for parents/guardians to learn about your child's instructional program. Children are not to attend, and childcare is not provided. Thank you for your understanding with this.
ToroSportsCamp: Tomorrow ToroSportsCamp begins their 6 week program from 3:00 – 5:00 pm for those students who received a confirmation email from the organization. Your child will meet the coaches at 3:00 pm on the grass field. If your child was placed on the wait list, you will receive an email as space becomes available. I hope your child enjoys.
Welby Online Spirit Store - Don't forget to order your Welby Way Spirit Store starting August 29th to September 16th. You can visit the Online Spirit Store at http://www.untopable.com/welbyway. Check out the website as there are so many new and fun designs to choose from and all orders will be delivered to the school. Also, check out the attached flier for more information.
Traffic Safety: I want to thank the many families who are remembering to slow down when dropping off and picking up your child. Also, thank you for not dropping your child off in front of the cones. This is not an unloading zone. Let’s work together to keep our students and families safe and do not drop your child off from the middle of the street and allow them to cross from the opposite curb. All families must use the cross walk to ensure their safety. Do not block our neighbors’ driveways or park in front of the cones or in the red. This is not permitted as we want to respect our neighbors and traffic rules. Lastly, please do not park in the church parking lot. This is not permitted for Welby Way parking. If you plan to walk your child to gate, please park across the street and not close to the cones so the flow of traffic can continue safely. I know we can all work together, we can ensure our students arrive and go home safely. I truly thank you for your attention to this.
POWW Events and Announcements:
Wednesday, August 28 - First Restaurant Night - Handel's Ice Cream, Calabasas – Welby Way staff will be scooping ice cream from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. Stop by and enjoy some delicious ice cream and see some of your Welby Way teachers and Mrs. DaCorsi scooping away.
