Weekly News #5 - September 9

This Week:

Patriot's Day:  As an annual tradition at Welby Way and a way for our community to celebrate patriotism, we will have our annual Patriot's Day celebration on Wednesday, Sept. 11th at 8:15 am.  Families are welcome to attend and will enter through the front gate or gates along Callicott once all classes are assembled on the yard.   Welby Way siblings are welcome to attend but must remain with their parent at all times .  Once the assembly ends all family members will exit out of the front or Callicot gate and may not walk their child to class.  I thank you in advance for your consideration with this.

Coffee with the Principal:  Please join me, our Wellness Coach Johanna, and Parent Rep. Mrs. Klein for our first Coffee with the Principal in Room 41.  We will be discussing “Creating a Welcoming Environment” and the current social-emotional supports available to all students at Welby Way this school year.   There will be coffee and goodies for all.

Governance/Local School Leadership Orientation/Election:  All are welcome to join this Wednesday at 3:00 pm via zoom for our annual Charter Governance/Local School Leadership orientation and elections.  Being part of this council, which meets monthly, is a perfect opportunity to learn about and be part of the decision making for the Safe School Plan, annual budget, LCAP, schedules, and school site planning.   Please join using the zoom information below and the agenda is attached.

Cell Phone/Watch Policies Reminder:  Reminders of the District and Welby Way's Cellphone/Watch Policy that was shared the first week of school with students and families prior to the start of the school year:

Students’ cell phones and phone/texting watches must be turned off during the school day and remain in the child’s backpack.  Students may NOT take photos/videos of others or misuse the privilege in any way.   Students are required to turn cell phones off and leave them in their backpacks during school hours.    Smart watches must also be turned off or used only as a watch, although they may be worn, during the school day.  If a watch or phone rings or goes off in the middle of class, it will be taken away and turned into the office.  Please be aware that the school and staff are not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones or electronics, regardless of when it happens.

Students will:

●               Be allowed to use a cell phone for the purpose of calling a parent or guardian after school only with the permission of the coach and in the presence of the coach.

●               Not be allowed to bring cell phones on field trips for any reason.

●               Refrain from texting, taking photos/videos of students, or using any device for searching, sharing or posting inappropriate information.   This is not permitted at school and I hope the same is true for at home.

In the event that the above-mentioned rules are not followed on campus, the electronic device privileges may be revoked for the remainder of the school year.  Thank you for your support and understanding with this.

Classroom Volunteers:  Thank you to the many parents who have been assisting this school year as an approved volunteer.  Your support and time is greatly appreciated.  Please remember when volunteering in your child's classroom, you are to report to the main office, sign in, and then report to your child's classroom or area in which you are scheduled to support.  To ensure the safety of all students and staff and account for everyone on campus, please do not visit other classrooms that are not prearranged including your other child's classroom unless it is scheduled in advance.  This is a disruption to the instruction within the classroom for your child and the class and in case of an emergency your location or presence will be unknown.  I truly thank you for your consideration and cooperation with this.

I hope you have a positive remainder of the weekend and evening.   Thank you for your continued support.  This is all for now.

Your Welby Way Principal,

Mrs. DaCorsi
