Weekly News #8 - September 30 - October 4, 2024

Good evening Welby Way families,

Lots of goodness happened at Welby Way this weekend.  First, we started with an extremely successful POWW Movie Night.  It was great to see so many families at Movie Night on Friday evening under the stars with goodies and perfect weather.  Next, our beautification event was another great success.  I truly want to thank the few families who came out to help our school shine with the clean up in front of the library, in front of a few classrooms, and along the main walkway.  Lastly, we had two scout troops help our school shine by bringing our garden back to life with a complete clean up and planting of new plants.  I can't wait to watch it flourish over time.  Another troop and Welby Way alumni brought privacy slats to our TK/Kindergarten yard.  This helps to ensure the safety of our TK and Kindergarten students along with make the yard look amazing.  It was such a successful weekend working together to make Welby Way shine!  I so appreciate all the efforts of our families and community.

This is week is going to be a busy one.

Monday:

5th Grade parents, please join Hale Middle School as they to come to Welby Way to present to our families their various programs and how to best apply.  The meeting will be at 8:30 am in the library on Monday.

In the afternoon on Monday Portola Middle School will be coming to visit our students in the classroom.  This is a student only event as the Portola staff will be talking to our 5th graders about their school.

Tuesday:

eChoices Window Opens:   The echoices application window is opening on Tuesday, Oct. 1st for charter and magnet applications – Friday, Nov. 15th.  You will go goto.lausd.net to apply.   If your child attends Welby Way as a charter student, you don't live in our area, and have an incoming sibling, don't forget to apply for the Welby Way lottery for the 2025 - 2026 school year during this on time application window.  This will allow your child to be placed on the sibling lottery list.  Also, if you are applying to the Welby Way magnet or a magnet for middle school you will also apply through eChoices website at goto.lausd.net.

Thursday:

No School - There will be no school on Thursday, October 3rd as it is an unassigned day in honor of Rosh Hashana.  School will resume on Friday as a regular day.
