Weekly News #31 (March 31-April 4, 2025)

Good evening Welby Way families,

I hope you are all having an enjoyable three day weekend as there is no school tomorrow in honor of Cesar Chavez.  School will resume on Tuesday with 1:30 pm dismissal.

What a memorable week just had with fitness week.  This week would not have been possible with the hard work and planning from the Fitness Week leads, Jasmine Dowlatshahi and Jill Basowski and their leadership.  I truly thank them along with the many parent volunteers who showed up each day to help before school, at recess and lunch, and to make this week such a success and possible.  The smiling faces of the students, activities, hikes, and color throughout the week was amazing.   Also, the fundraising was a great success and as of now we have raised $26,000.   POWW has set a goal to $35,000 which is only $13 more a student with the deadline of April 4th.  I know we can do it.  If we meet this goal school wide, all students will earn an extra dance party recess with Ms. Stern and the class with the largest amount raised earns a JambaJuice celebration.  I know we can do it as we are working to purchase our teachers new printers and turn our school garden into a classroom with the EnrichLA program for the 2025 - 26 school year.  Please see the attached flyer for more details.

Annual School Experience Survey:   We are getting close to 100% with 69% of our families having completed the annual school experience.  Please take a few minutes to complete the Annual School Experience Survey using the following link:  https://www.lausd.org/SES.  This information is used for compliance, planning for the following school year, and allows us to know what we are doing well and any areas of need.     Currently we have 422 families participating out of 609. I know we can make 100% participation.  Only one survey per family is requested and all students whose family submits the confirmation form to your classroom teacher via email or paper will receive a special "Bedazzle" for an ice cream party.  Thank you for your time and input.

Wednesday:  On Wednesday from 3:00 - 5:00 pm FocusFish Theater students will have their final presentation in the auditorium.  Parents are welcome and will enter through the auditorium.  I can't wait to see the progress the students have made during this session.

Friday:  On Friday morning at 8:30 am we will have our final charter/magnet school tour for the school year for parents only.  No children permitted.  Please spread the word and parents may check in at the main office.

5th Grade Road to Revolution:  This Friday 5th grade will have their annual Road to Revolution event for the day.  All participating parents must be an LAUSD approved volunteer and check in at the main office.  I can't wait to see all the engaging rotations for the day and learning for our students.

Saturday Region North STEAM Fest:  Come out with your family on this upcoming Saturday, April 5th to the Discovery Cube to join Mr. Weissler, Ms. Guidry, and me and many schools from across the valley for a day of learning and fun for free for the Region North STEAMFest.  Please see the attached flyer for more details and register using the link below.  We hope to see you there.

Future Dates:

Spring Break:  There will be no school for Spring Break on Monday, April 14th - 18th with school resuming on the 21st.  Also, there is no school on Thursday, April 24th for Armenian Genocide.

3rd - 5th Grade SBA Testing:  May 5th - 16th all 3rd - 5th grade students will be taking the required Standards-Based Assessment (SBAC).  This is an important time for your child to be in school every day and on time during this time to demonstrate their learning.  Please make all appointments after 11:00 am.  Thank you.

I hope you have a wonderful evening and rest of the weekend.  Thank you for your partnership and the gift of your child.  This is all for now.

Your Welby Way Principal,

Mrs. DaCorsi
