Weekly News #33 (April 27 - May 1, 2026)

A message from WELBY WAY EL Cht Sch

Good evening Welby Way families,

I hope you are all having a safe and enjoyable three-day weekend. It was wonderful to see so many families at Open House this week, as classrooms were glowing with hard work and student projects. It was also great to see so many of you at the POWW Glow Dance yesterday, where children enjoyed dancing and spending time with friends.

Our silent auction was a huge success, especially the teacher experiences. A special thank you to Adrian Colvin, our event chair, along with the many POWW members and volunteers who did an incredible job decorating, preparing, and organizing the auction and activities. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible.

I look forward to our Monday morning assembly tomorrow, where Student Council will introduce the May character trait: creativity. All are welcome to join—I hope to see you there!

This Week at Welby Way:

Coffee with the Principal:
Please join me on Tuesday for our next Coffee with the Principal, where we will discuss cybersecurity and online safety, including grooming awareness, to help keep our students safe on the internet. There will be coffee, light refreshments, and an opportunity for meaningful discussion. All participants may check in at the main office.

Welby Way Olympics:
This week, our upper grade students will participate in the annual Welby Way Olympics on Tuesday, and our lower grade students will participate on Wednesday. I wish all of our students the best of luck! Medals and awards will be recognized at next Monday’s morning assembly.

Spring Lockdown Drill:
On Wednesday afternoon, following lunch, we will conduct our spring lockdown drill. During this time, the office will be closed—students will not be released, and phones will not be answered. A notification will be sent to families at the start and conclusion of the drill.

Snack Shack:
This Friday, our 5th grade students will host Snack Shack for all students. Please remind your child that if lines are long at dismissal, they should meet you at the front gate.

Earth Day Recycling Effort:
Welby Way and POWW continue to celebrate Earth Day by collecting old writing tools and empty squeeze pouches for recycling through the end of the month. Collection bins are located at the front office and front gate. Let’s continue working together to keep our planet clean and teach our children the importance of environmental responsibility. ♻️🌳♥️

Future Dates:

SBA/CAST Testing:
Families of students in grades 3–5, please mark your calendars for SBA/CAST testing beginning next week and continuing the following week. It is very important that students arrive to school on time each day to avoid make-up testing and allow them to do their best on the test and shine.

5th Grade Pali Camp:
Next week, our 5th grade students will attend Pali Camp from Wednesday through Friday. I’m excited for them to have this memorable experience!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend. I look forward to seeing your children back at school tomorrow morning.

This is all for now.

Warmly,
Your Welby Way Principal,
Mrs. DaCorsi
