Good evening Welby Way families,
I hope you are all enjoying a safe, relaxing, and wonderful weekend. It was wonderful seeing some of our families yesterday at the Region North STEAM Fest along with those who participated in the Pinewood Derby and the Imagination Machine Writing Workshop at Welby Way.
I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning at our weekly Monday Morning Assembly. This week’s assembly will recognize Jewish Heritage Month and acknowledge the students who participated in the Pinewood Derby and the Imagination Machine assembly.
This Week at Welby Way
5th Grade SBA: This Monday and Tuesday will be the final portion of the SBA testing for 5th grade along with make up testing for any student who has been absent. Please be sure your child goes to bed on time, arrives in school on time, and eats a healthy breakfast so they can do their best on the test.
1st Grade Field Trip
This week, our 1st graders will be attending their field trip to the Bob Baker Marionette Theater on Thursday. I know they will have a wonderful time.
Final Honor Awards Assemblies
On Thursday morning, we will hold our final Honor Awards Assemblies of the school year. If your child is receiving an award, their teacher will have already reached out to you.
Due to the 1st grade field trip, the 1st grade Honor Awards Assembly will take place on Friday at 8:30 a.m.
I look forward to congratulating our creative and hardworking students.
Color Wars Spirit Day
On Friday, we will celebrate our May Spirit Day with grade-level Color Wars. Here are the assigned colors for each grade level:
- TK – Red
- Kindergarten – Blue
- 1st Grade – Green
- 2nd Grade – Orange
- 3rd Grade – Yellow
- 4th Grade – Purple
- 5th Grade – 5th Grade gear
I can’t wait to see the rainbow of colors throughout the school!
POWW Updates
Please join us for our final POWW meeting of the school year tomorrow, May 18, at 7:00 p.m. in West Hills, hosted by Board Member Samira. This will be our last meeting of the year, so feel free to bring a dish to share as we spend time connecting and wrapping up a wonderful school year together.

Future Dates
No School
There will be no school on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.
🎶 Spring Sing
Our TK/Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 4th grade classes will present our annual Spring Sing on Thursday, May 28, in the auditorium.
Performance times:
- 8:30 a.m.
- 1:15 p.m.
🎓 5th Grade Culmination
Our 5th grade culmination ceremonies will take place on Tuesday, June 9:
- 8:30 a.m. – Magnet
- 10:30 a.m. – Charter
🏫 Last Day of School
The final day of the school year will be Wednesday, June 10.
⏰ Minimum Day Dismissal – 12:50 p.m.
Minimum day dismissal will take place on:
- Friday, June 5
- Monday, June 8
- Wednesday, June 10
Tuesday, June 9, will remain a regular dismissal day at 1:30 p.m.
🌟 First Day of School – 2026–2027
The first day of school for the 2026–2027 school year will be Wednesday, August 12. After-school daycare applications will open in the office in mid-July.
