Welby Way Families,
I hope you are all having a wonderful summer and enjoying quality time with your families, whether you are here in town or traveling. I look forward to welcoming everyone back soon as we begin what promises to be a remarkable and meaningful school year together.
Here are a few important updates for the start of the school year:
Beginning-of-the-Year Paperwork
This school year, the office will accept your completed Return to School Packet prior to the Welcome Back to School event on August 11. The office is currently open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
All required documents can be found on the Welby Way website at https://welbywayces.lausd.org/ under "Back to School Central – Complete 2026–2027." You may also pick up a paper packet in the office.
This year, most district-required forms must be completed and submitted online through enroll.lausd.net, while the remaining forms are available on the Welby Way website. Please note that this process is different from the previous school year.
After-School Care
This school year, we will offer two after-school programs:
- PEAK Adventures for TK–2nd grade students (fee-based). More information is available at peak-adventure.com/welbyway.
- KYDS for TK–5th grade students. The district has combined YS with KYDS, with coaches now supporting the unified program.
Applications for both programs will be available beginning Monday at 8:00 a.m. and may be picked up and completed in front of the school.
Both programs will operate Monday through Friday, from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m., on campus.
Welcome Back Family Social
Tuesday, August 11 will be our Welcome Back Family event. The day's schedule is below, and I hope to see you there!
8:15–8:45 a.m. – Kindergarten Orientation (Auditorium)
9:00–10:00 a.m. – Magnet/New Parent Orientation (Auditorium)
10:00–11:00 a.m. – "Find Out and Meet Your Teacher"
School Supply Lists
As we prepare for the new school year, our teachers are working hard to gather supplies for each grade level and classroom. To help you prepare your child for a successful start to the school year, grade-level supply lists and procedures will be posted on the Welby Way website this upcoming week. Please note that 5th grade teachers will provide classroom-specific supply lists.
***Also, please do not forget to label all your child’s items (backpack, water bottle, lunch box, and jacket) with their first and last name to avoid having it end up in the lost and found.
School Volunteers
An online volunteer application must be completed to begin the approval process for the 2026–2027 school year. Applications can be accessed at volunteerapp.lausd.net.
All volunteers—including those who were approved during previous school years—must complete a new application each year. Parents or guardians who plan to come onto campus to volunteer, attend a school-sponsored event, or chaperone a field trip must be approved for the current school year. Please note that the one-day volunteer pass is no longer available.
Please note that volunteer opportunities are at the discretion of your child's teacher. Be sure to coordinate with your child's teacher and/or room parent in the fall to learn about volunteer opportunities and classroom needs. Unless you have made prior arrangements for a classroom activity or other scheduled school event, you will not be permitted to volunteer on campus unless your application has been approved.
I hope you all have a wonderful remainder of the summer! I truly look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, August 11, for our Welcome Back Family event and again on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 12.
Be well, stay safe, and enjoy the rest of your summer!
Your Welby Way Principal,
Mrs. DaCorsi
